Catalogues, their standards and the digital library

The two seminars will discuss electronic catalogues of books, rare books and manuscripts and how they have been exploited in digital libraries, both in Italy and in Europe.
The Italian Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale (SBN) and its cataloguing standards will be illustrated, together with Internet Culturale which is an Italian repository of digital collections. The architecture of Internet culturale will be compared with other electronic archives, such as the Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura (BEIC), the French digital library, Gallica, Europeana and Google Libri.
Short Bio

Giliola Barbero
Giliola Barbero: researcher in the EU funded Project EMoBookTrade at the Università degli Studi di Udine; Ph.D. in Italian literature in 1994. She has teaching qualifications in Book History and Mediaeval Latin. Since 2003 she has taught a course on IT for Cultural Heritage at the Università Cattolica, Milan. She is researcher in the European project Liber glossarum and project manager in the project Census of Bernardino Telesio XVIth century printe books; technical coordinator of Manus OnLine, the Italian national catalogue of manuscripts; project manager and researcher in the Census of medieval manuscripts of Lombardia; from 1995 to 2008 she had been curator at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana di Milano.
